Pediatric & Adolescent Health

When it comes to our children’s health, we want them to experience optimal well-being. Integrative and functional health takes this a step further. By addressing the underlying causes of illness and using a holistic approach, they help children heal and live healthy lives.

Integrative and functional healthcare providers believe that every child is unique and deserves an individualized approach to care. They consider the whole – mind, body, and spirit – when assessing health concerns.

Pediatric & Adolescent Health

What is Autism?

Autism is a developmental disorder that can cause social, communication, and behavioral challenges. It affects people of all ages but is most often diagnosed in children. The exact cause of autism is unknown, but it is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Autism can range from mild to severe, and people with the condition can have a wide range of abilities.

Common symptoms that many people with autism share include:

  • Difficulties with social interaction
  • Problems with verbal and nonverbal communication
  • Repetitive behaviors or interests

Autism Care

Some people with autism may need very little support, while others may require lifelong assistance. There is no fixed cure for autism, but early intervention and therapy can help improve symptoms and enable people with the condition to lead fulfilling lives.

Children affected by autism often have unique physical or psychological challenges that can be exacerbated by ingredients found in food and medicine, such as:

  • Casein
  • Soy
  • Gluten
  • Sugars
  • Heavy metals like aluminum

A diet that is free from these ingredients can make a big difference in the health and well-being of a child with autism. In addition, parents should also be vigilant about ingredients in medication and avoid giving their children any medication that contains these substances.

All children are different, and so are their dietary needs. As a parent, it’s important to be aware of your child’s unique restrictions in order to ensure they’re getting the right medication and nutrition they need. Because each child’s body has its own unique needs, commercially available medications sometimes may not provide the appropriate dosage, form, or ingredients needed.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting, and that includes managing your child with autism’s diet. By being attuned to your child’s specific needs, you can help them lead a healthy and happy life. Want to get to know more about how to get the right type of care for your children?
